Performance Anxiety - On The Job…And Elsewhere.
Those that work in the corporate world are prone to have performance anxiety. They may be trying desperately to keep their jobs, get that promotion that will pay them a higher salary, or to stay a step ahead of others who may be trying to take your job. A person may experience performance anxiety if they are expected to make a presentation, meet a deadline, or go through a review with your boss.
Musicians may also experience performance anxiety. They may seem confident while they are working their magic onstage, but many face this problem. Their heart rate may speed up; their mouth dry out, and they may begin to shake. Heart arrhythmia, sweaty palms, and cause problems with blood pressure and blood sugar counts.
Men often experience performance anxiety when they are preparing for intercourse. They may experience premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, and impotence. If the man has already had an incident where something interfered with his sexual performance, he may become more prone to performance anxiety the next time. Our bodies were not meant to feel anxious and feel sexual pleasure at the same time.
There are ways to decrease performance anxiety. First, stay away from caffeine and alcoholic drinks. They will increase your nervousness and take away from your performance. Public speaking, performance reviews, giving a musical program, and preparing for sex can be helped by getting the proper amount of sleep, eating a healthy diet, and taking the time to relax before your big moment.
Imagine yourself making that speech, taking that test, or playing onstage and see the positives that will come out of it. Don’t let negative thoughts get in the way. Do deep breathing exercises, do a little exercise, or go through a yoga routine. This will help your body to relax and protect against the possibility of performance anxiety.
