Symptoms of Stress – Who Doesn’t Have Them!

Most of us will experience some form of stress during our lifetime.  Problems on-the-job, marital strife, or illness causes stress.  Many other factors will cause stress.  Many find they have more stress at the happiest time of their lives.  During the holidays, the birth of a baby, or getting married are times when we are expected to be the happiest, yet that isn’t always the case.

There are many symptoms of stress, some are obvious and some take place internally and won’t show up for years.  Immediate symptoms of stress are readily noticed.  You may be unable to sleep because of racing thoughts and worry about the future.  You may find yourself overeating, especially the foods that you know will give you comfort.  My comfort food is French fries, so if I find myself going through the drive through once a day, I know I am showing a symptom of stress!

Another common stress symptom is irritability.  You feel overwhelmed, pressured, and restless.  You may isolate yourself from your friends and family or feel too tired to take care of normal activities you can usually do with ease.  You feel tense all the time or “on edge”, and you may not be able to do anything that will help your relax.  These are all emotional symptoms of stress.

Physical symptoms of stress may occur too.  Backaches, headaches, and other muscular aches can be caused by stress.  You may develop problems with your bowel, your sleep habits might change, and you may have more cold and flu symptoms if you are under stress.

Behavior problems can be a sign of stress.  If you start biting your nails, scratching your skin, or grinding your teeth, that could be a sign that you are under stress.  Those who are feeling extra stress will often use cigarettes, drugs, or alcohol to help ease the symptoms.

These are just a few of the prominent stress symptoms you can experience.  If you are feeling any of these symptoms, examine your life and find the reason you are feeling stress and then take the steps to ease that situation.

It does not cause any drowsiness or foggy thinking at all–in fact it seems to sharpen my mind and give clarity of thought. Highly recommended!
